National honour for Peter

Nigeria's Samuel Peter, the new world heavyweight boxing champion, has been awarded the national honour of the Officer of the Order of Niger (OON), by Nigeria's President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, at a grand ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by leading sport personalities, including the flamboyant US boxing promoter Don King. President Yar'Adua applauded Peter for bringing great honour to his family, Nigeria and the African continent. Peter won the championship belt on October 6, beating America's James McCline.
